MELANIE RODRIGUES, RP

Registered psychotherapist for adults and teens

Special interest: LGBTQ2S+ populations, sex, spirituality, grief, and substance abuse.

Hi, I’m Melanie!  I’m delighted to come to the Journey Well Health and Wellness team with a unique perspective and a deep “well” of energy and compassion.  I work with adults, teens who are interested in self-exploration and making lasting change in order to find peace, joy, and purpose.

As a graduate of University of Waterloo’s Sexuality, Marriage, and the Family (SMF) program, I’m not afraid to wade through the tough, tearful, and often taboo pieces of life that make us human.  In particular, I am deeply passionate about topics such as sex, gender, grief, relationships, and trauma.  My education and personal beliefs are firmly grounded in Anti-Oppressive Practice and Intersectional Theory – I strive to ensure that my office is a safe space for folks in the LGBTQ2S+ community, folks with accessibility needs, and folks from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. When I notice there’s a topic that some folks might shy away from, it is my instinct to lean in with curiosity and care.

This passion and curiosity led me to Wilfrid Laurier University, where I completed my Master’s Degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy.  In this space of learning and growth, I did a great deal of professional development and reflection on life’s big questions.

Of course, at times therapy is a little bit more practical than that.  With solid training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, we can work together to further explore the origins of your concerns, what types of patterns you’re stuck in right now, and how you might break out of those cycles!  I bring a wealth of experience from workplace settings such as: community service agencies, hospice care, family health teams, and addictions services.

I won’t have all the answers, but I will have the patience and know-how to support you in exploring for them, and a few tools to support you along the way.

When I’m not in the office, I’m usually hanging out in the vegetable garden, wrangling two huge dogs, or hiding out with a great book.
