Child and Youth Counsellor / Specialist
Special interest: anxiety and depression, trauma, attachment, self-esteem/self-worth, social pressures, stress, and life challenges.
Hello there, I am Amanda (she/her). I am honoured to join the team at Journey Well Health & Wellness. I am super-pumped to support children/youth/families in my own community!
Formerly from the Niagara Region, I have called Oxford County my home for the past 11+ years. My love of supporting children and youth - and I would say my life's focus - directed my education. I attended the Child and Youth Worker diploma program at Niagara College, later completing my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Child and Youth Care at, what was then known as, Ryerson University. I am a registered social worker through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
With over 24+ years in the Child and Youth Care field - in settings that include family homes, residential facilities, and community agencies - my experience equips me to support youth and those who care about them. My approach is best described as Relational Practice; meeting youth where they are at, building a rapport and relationship, and supporting them along their chosen journey. I provide a safe space to allow for personal healing, growth, and development unique to each individual. I count it a privilege to travel along their journey.
I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a trusted part of people's lives. In fact, my favourite work is being a part of a young person's development that stems from their tremendous strength and potential, and seeing them reach their destination.
Areas that I focus on include:
Child/Youth Behaviour Challenges
